Welcome back!!! Just a few suggestions for a safe and healthy 2015-2016 school year:

Head lice:

Head lice are prevalent, not only at DeSmet last year but all around the country. Prevention is always the key!

1.)    Encourage your students to avoid sharing combs, brushes, hats, scarves, pillows, etc.

2.)    Continual head checks for nits (eggs) and early detection will halt the spread of lice throughout the school.

3.)    If your student does have head lice, please inform the school!

4.)    Both tea tree and neem essential oils have been proven to deter head lice. These oils can be added to shampoo (or you can purchase products with the oils already in).

5.)    Olive oil is great for suffocating the adults. Saturate head with oil and sleep over night with the oil in hair. In the morning rinse oil out and spray vinegar throughout hair (the vinegar helps loosen the nits). Then comb through and remove nits and adults using a fine toothed comb.

 Staying well:

1.)    Eat healthy foods, especially high in vitamin C, drink lots of water, receive adequate amounts of sleep, and exercise (when the smoke clears!).

2.)    Wash hands frequently.

3.)    Avoid touching eyes and mouth.

4.)    Avoid sharing food and drinks.

5.)    Practice good hygiene: shower regularly and brush your teeth at least two times a day

 Staying safe:

1.)    Always wear a bike helmet when riding a bike. Protect your precious brain!

2.)    Encourage cooperation and communication, rather than violence or hurtful words when an altercation arises.

3.)    Always look both ways before crossing the street.

4.)    Practice safe bus behavior coming , riding, and leaving the bus.

                                                                          And remember to SMILE!
